I think these things work simultaneously when you don't have an exhausting job. I love Elizabeth Gilbert's take on this, she took jobs to have a steady income that were not exhausting and simultaneously wrote for several years before anyone cared for what she wrote. Hobbies, careers and jobs are different!!
